Valley Women’s Clinic can help with either or both of those things. We provide lab-certified pregnancy tests that can detect pregnancy as soon as 10 days after conception. We also provide STI testing for chlamydia and gonorrhea, two of the most common STIs. All of our services are completely free and confidential.
Maybe you’re considering making an appointment, or maybe you already have. Either way, here’s a little information on what you can expect on your first visit to VWC:
When you arrive, one of our staff members will greet you with a smile. We will make a copy of your photo ID and will have you fill out some paperwork regarding your medical care and privacy. However, since all of our services are free of charge, you won’t need to provide us with any insurance or billing information.
Depending on the services you request, appointment times may vary; however, please allow for your visit to take 45 minutes to an hour.
After you fill out your paperwork, one of our client advocates will meet you to walk you through your appointment. You will leave a urine specimen for one of our nurses to perform the test(s) you requested.
During this time, you will meet with your client advocate for a confidential consultation to discuss your situation and your concerns. Your client advocate will listen to you and treat you with kindness and without judgment. We are here to provide a safe place for you to process your situation.
Test Results & Medical Consultation
If you have come for an STI test, your sample will be sent away for testing. It typically takes 5-7 days for your results to come back. Before you leave, you can consult with one of our nurses regarding any questions you may have about the STI or other sexual health issues. She will take the time to hear your concerns and answer your questions to help you be better informed about your health. She will then schedule you a follow-up appointment to come back for the results and referrals for treatment if your test is positive.
With a pregnancy test, we’ll have your results right away. One of our nurses will share your results with you, and whether you’re positive or negative, will listen to any of your concerns and answer any medical questions you may have. If your test is positive, the nurse can answer questions about the pregnancy and provide you with referrals you may need. She can also provide you with medical information about abortion procedures if that’s an option you’re considering. While Valley Women’s Clinic does not perform or refer for abortion, we do believe that you deserve to be informed about all your pregnancy options so that you can make the best decision for you and your future.
After a positive pregnancy test, depending on the assessment of one of our nurses, you may be eligible for an ultrasound, which can determine how far along you are in your pregnancy. An ultrasound can also confirm that there is a uterine pregnancy, as opposed to an ectopic pregnancy or potential miscarriage.
An ultrasound provides information that is necessary to help determine what type of abortion procedure you would require if you choose to terminate your pregnancy. The information an ultrasound provides is essential to you regardless of your pregnancy decision. Our nurse may offer you an ultrasound at the time of your first appointment, or she may schedule you for a follow-up ultrasound appointment.
